New experiences for young musicians

Since the year 2009, chiffren has been offering young regional musicians the chance to try out their skills in the field of contemporary music. In cooperation with the Schleswig-Holstein Music Council, budding talents are given the opportunity to take their first successful steps and shine in public.  
Many of these young people, who have proven their qualification by participating successfully in the competition for young musicians “Jugend musiziert” at the state and usually at the federal level as well, are also active in other state-level ensembles like Schleswig-Holstein’s youth orchestra, the Landes-Jugend-Orchester, for example. And yet, contemporary music opens up a whole new set of very special and wide-ranging experiences. Playing in a larger ensemble where there is only one player on each instrument, represents a formidable artistic challenge for the young musicians which they aren’t faced with very often. In addition, they are able to explore novel playing techniques, unusual sound structures and unconventional, unfamiliar types of music notation.  

Live recordings and features on the Schleswig-HolsteinYouthEnsemble for New Music were broadcast in 2010 on the following radio stations: Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandradio and NDR Kultur.
